In a Fantasy World as Cannon Fodder, I Got Entangled with the Heroine - Chapter 51
Chapter 51: Failed Possession
Translation by: Weebsread👹
As soon as she heard the words, the woman’s gaze snapped to Chen Xiaoxiao.
Without hesitation, she strode over, seized Chen Xiaoxiao as if she were nothing more than a helpless chick, and dragged her inside.
Jiang Qian was left sprawled on the ground, helplessly watching as Chen Xiaoxiao was taken away right before his eyes.
If only this ruin wasn’t her spirit artifact…
I wouldn’t have been defeated so miserably. At the very least, I could’ve left her crippled—too weak to attempt a possession.
Wait. If only this ruin didn’t belong to her, everything would be different.
It won’t be easy, but right now, it’s my only chance.
“I need to find a way to break free from this gravity field!”
…
With that resolve, Jiang Qian reached into his storage ring and pulled out the branch, barking, “I know you’re not dead! Stop pretending!”
The branch lay on the ground, utterly still, as if oblivious to his existence.
“Fine, you asked for this!” Jiang Qian summoned the Northwind Ice Wolf. “Go pee on that branch!”
“If you keep playing dead, prepare to be pissed to death!”
The threat had the desired effect—the once-limp branch suddenly snapped upright.
“I knew you’d drop the act eventually. Now, hurry up and make a copy of me!” Jiang Qian ordered.
The branch gave a faint nod.
A heartbeat later, a mighty tree sprouted out of thin air, and from its trunk, a “Jiang Qian” stepped forth.
At the branch’s command, the duplicate obediently walked over and stood by Jiang Qian’s side.
Perfect. The decoy is ready.
Now for my escape.
“Myriad Demon Qilin Codex!” Jiang Qian roared, unleashing a wave of fiercely dark demonic energy. The black qilin tattooed on his back ignited in a sinister black-violet glow.
Demonic qi surged over him, cloaking his form.
Gritting his teeth, Jiang Qian crawled forward, inch by agonizing inch, slowly dragging himself out of the gravity field.
Damn, this hurts like hell…
After what felt like an eternity, he finally broke free. The suffocating weight vanished instantly—suddenly, he felt light as a feather.
He paused only to catch his breath, then scooped up the little branch, leaped onto the Northwind Ice Wolf, and charged deeper inside!
In barely ten seconds, he arrived.
He saw the woman’s figure growing translucent—a clear sign the possession ritual was nearly finished.
It’s now or never.
A cultivator in the midst of possession is completely oblivious to their surroundings.
The perfect moment to strike.
Without hesitation, Jiang Qian unleashed his demonic qi, enveloping the crystal in a shroud of darkness.
This would sever the woman’s link to the ruin. Shielded by demonic qi, the crystal wouldn’t be able to sense if he was the rightful owner—so it wouldn’t accidentally lash out and kill him.
“Mist-Seeking Cloudstep!”
The moment he spoke the words, everything happened at lightning speed.
In a flash, Jiang Qian snatched the crystal from its place. He let out a cold laugh. “Old hag, we meet again. Bet you didn’t see this coming, did you?”
“Hm? How did you get here? That’s impossible, I—” The woman started to protest, then stopped cold.
“A decoy?!”
“But it’s pointless. Your dear confidante is about to vanish forever!”
Jiang Qian just smiled, unruffled. “Is that so? You might want to double-check—see if she’s still here.”
The woman whirled around, only to find that Chen Xiaoxiao had disappeared.
By the time she spotted her again, the Northwind Ice Wolf was already setting Chen Xiaoxiao gently beside Jiang Qian.
“Bastard!” The woman’s rage erupted, her gaze icy enough to freeze blood.
She glared daggers at Jiang Qian. “Myriad Demon Sacred Body? Hmph. From this day forth, it will cease to exist!”
She raised her right hand and pressed down. “Suppress!”
The word echoed through the chamber.
Yet Jiang Qian stood his ground, utterly unharmed, not even flinching.
“Why… why can’t I feel—” The woman’s eyes flicked to the crystal, now wrapped tight in writhing demonic qi.
She understood immediately. With the crystal so thoroughly shielded, there was no way she could connect to the ruin.
With a casual wave, Jiang Qian tossed the crystal to the Northwind Ice Wolf.
The wolf caught it in its jaws, holding it steady.
Jiang Qian stepped forward.
“Senior, forgive my offense—but I won’t hold back!”
He drew the Flood Dragon Bone Sword; in the blink of an eye, he appeared in front of the woman and slashed down with a decisive strike.
She just barely managed to block it, but all composure was gone.
Most of her strength had been poured into the interrupted possession—her soul form now utterly weak.
Having lost connection to the ruin, she stood no chance.
In less than a heartbeat, she was at her breaking point.
Eyes flaring desperately, she lunged toward Chen Xiaoxiao, grasping for the last thread of a final, desperate possession.
But Jiang Qian’s sword was faster. With a ruthless slash, he cut her down!
“No—! I can’t die like this!” the woman shrieked, her voice echoing with bitter, unyielding hatred.
But her soul dissolved, scattering like mist on the wind.
Jiang Qian watched as she vanished, finally releasing a long, deep breath. His tense posture eased, his power subsiding.
It’s finally over.
Exhausted, he slumped to the ground and turned to the Northwind Ice Wolf. “Spit out that crystal, would you?”
The wolf obediently opened its jaws, and the crystal tumbled out, landing neatly in front of Jiang Qian.
Now, the ruin was ownerless.
Jiang Qian considered claiming it himself, but after a moment’s thought, he decided against it.
Even though Chen Xiaoxiao hadn’t been possessed, she’d still inherited most of the woman’s memories. By all rights, the ruin belonged to her now.
He had no intention of taking what should rightfully be Chen Xiaoxiao’s.
Some time passed.
Slowly, Chen Xiaoxiao stirred from her deep sleep.
“You’re finally awake!” Jiang Qian said, turning to her as her eyes fluttered open.
“Senior Brother? Am I dreaming?” Chen Xiaoxiao sat up groggily, rubbing her aching head in confusion.
“No, you’re still alive.”
“But I was being possessed—and now I have all these… memories?” Bewilderment filled her face as floods of foreign memories poured in.
Jiang Qian got to his feet, patting the dust from his clothes. “Those are the woman’s memories. She tried to possess you, but I interrupted her at the last moment. She’s gone for good.”
“When we get out of this secret realm, you’d better treat me to a feast!”
“Otherwise, risking my life for nothing would be too much of a loss, don’t you think?”
Before he could finish the thought, Chen Xiaoxiao rushed forward and threw her arms around him. “Senior Brother, thank you…”
“Huh—wa—wait—” Jiang Qian’s face turned scarlet. His hands hovered uncertainly, unsure where to put them.
I asked for a meal, not… not this kind of ‘treat’!
A few moments later, Chen Xiaoxiao stepped back, cheeks flushed, lowering her gaze in embarrassment.
“Ahem…” Jiang Qian quickly cleared his throat, struggling to compose himself. After a moment, he said, “Right—Xiaoxiao, you should take that crystal and make it yours!”
“But…”
“No buts,” Jiang Qian said firmly, his tone leaving no room for protest. “You’ve inherited half her memories—at this point, you’re basically her successor. This ruin is rightfully yours.”
Seeing the sincerity in his eyes, Chen Xiaoxiao nodded. Mustering her courage, she stepped forward and reached for the crystal.
