Chapter 82: Trapped by the Formation Upon Landing
Translation by: Weebsread👹
A relentless volley of attacks hammered the Spirit boat, causing it to shudder violently amidst the storm.
On the deck, Jiang Qian looked down at the horde of Blood Sect disciples surging below like a tide of red. His eyes blazed with defiance.
“Touch my Spirit boat and you forfeit your lives!” he roared, summoning forth the Thunderflame Skywing Eagle and Northwind Ice Wolf in a flash of Spiritual Essence.
The Northwind Ice Wolf leapt onto the back of the Thunderflame Skywing Eagle, the pair launching an unbridled assault on the throng below.
Explosions of elemental fury rained down—ice, thunder, and fire tearing into the ranks of the Blood Sect. The earth beneath was quickly shrouded in dust and smoke, pierced by screams of pain and terror.
Only after the chaos faded did Jiang Qian and his three companions leap down from the battered Spirit boat.
Yet, as soon as the four landed, a web of glowing sigils flared beneath their feet—the trigger of a hidden formation, already lying in wait.
Bai Piaoxue glanced down, alarm flashing across her face. “Jiang Qian, this formation is draining our strength!”
Crackling energy surged from the formation, wrapping around them with sinister intent.
...
A mocking laugh cut through the tension—a middle-aged man with a narrow goatee, clad in the scarlet robes of a Blood Sect elder, strode forward through the lingering haze.
“Well, well. I never expected to net the esteemed disciples of Azure Mountain Sect today. What a fortunate bounty!” he sneered.
Jiang Zixuan’s gaze sharpened as she recognized the man. “Blood Sect’s Seventh Elder—Ye Feng,” she called out, her tone steely.
As the Holy Maiden of Azure Mountain Sect, Jiang Zixuan knew all too well the roster of the demonic sect’s elders.
Ye Feng’s lips curled in cruel amusement. “Oh? Even the Holy Maiden knows my name? I’m honored!”
Hu Murui whispered behind her hand, “Zixuan, you recognize him?”
Jiang Zixuan nodded. “Ye Feng—the Blood Sect’s renowned formation master. Second rank in the art. His cultivation’s at the Nascent Soul stage.”
Ye Feng swaggered closer, hands clasped behind his back. “Impressive. The Azure Mountain Sect has certainly done their research.”
“But what a shame. Soon, your sect will be without its Young Sect Mistress, its Holy Maiden, and its Chief Disciple. And let’s not forget the Young Mistress of the Beast Taming Sect.”
Bai Piaoxue’s presence flared as she attempted to brute-force her way out of the formation. But within moments, her spiritual power began to hemorrhage, the drain only accelerating as she struggled.
Ye Feng burst out laughing. “Still trying brute force? Pathetic. Even your father, Bai Qianfeng, wouldn’t break free from my formation!”
“The four of you might as well sit tight and await your deaths.”
He hardly finished speaking before his smug look slowly cracked—because Jiang Qian, utterly unfazed, was calmly striding out of the formation’s boundaries, not even ruffled.
Ye Feng stood frozen in disbelief. Impossible! How is he walking out unscathed?
But he quickly rallied, snarling, “So what if you escaped the formation? Did you think that would be enough to defeat me?”
With a flick, Ye Feng drew a blood-red saber from his storage ring, Spiritual Essence roiling.
“Die!” he bellowed, slashing down at Jiang Qian with murderous intent.
A chilling howl split the air—the Northwind Ice Wolf launched itself from above, intercepting the saber between its jaws.
Ye Feng barely had time to react before the Thunderflame Skywing Eagle swooped in from behind, flinging a blazing fireball straight for his back.
“Just two measly beasts!” Ye Feng roared, rage twisting his features as a crimson mist roiled from his body. His form elongated, limbs warping and eyes slitting cold and vertical—a python’s gaze.
In a heartbeat, Ye Feng transformed into a titanic serpent, venomous and monstrous.
He spat a wave of toxic miasma at the demonic beasts.
But the Thunderflame Skywing Eagle answered with a mighty gust, scattering the poison back into Ye Feng’s face.
Without mercy, the duo pressed their attack. Against two sixth-rank demonic beasts, even a Nascent Soul cultivator could barely hold out. In just moments, the Thunderflame Skywing Eagle seized Ye Feng in its talons and soared high above.
At the peak, it hurled him down to earth. Ye Feng crashed hard, his body battered and spirit force spent, shifting back to human form as he sprawled broken on the ground.
Desperately, Ye Feng groped for something—perhaps to send a message to the Blood Sect—but the Northwind Ice Wolf surged forward and swallowed him whole.
It licked its chops, content and pleased.
With Ye Feng’s death, the binding formation dissipated instantly.
Freed at last, the three women dashed to Jiang Qian’s side.
“Why would the Blood Sect show up here?” wondered Hu Murui. “Could they have gotten wind of Zhang Shi’s treasure too?”
Jiang Qian nodded. “That’s likely. We’ll have to be even more careful from here on out.”
“They wrecked my Spirit boat and still think they’ll lay hands on that treasure?” Jiang Qian scoffed. “Not only will they fail—I’ll make sure they pay back everything they owe me, with interest.”
With grim resolve, Jiang Qian led his three companions onward, following the map’s clues toward the legendary trove of Zhang Shi.
After a long trek, they arrived at the base of a sheer cliff. According to the map, this was the spot. Yet aside from the imposing rock face, nothing seemed out of place.
“That’s odd. The map says this is the place, but I don’t see any sign of a hiding spot,” Jiang Qian muttered, scanning the cliff with furrowed brows.
Jiang Zixuan stepped forward, placing her palm gently against the cold stone. For a heartbeat, nothing happened—then, a faint resonance.
All at once, the cliff trembled—a hidden cave yawned open before their very eyes.
“It’s open,” Jiang Zixuan said, astonished at the outcome of her chance touch.
Jiang Qian’s lips twitched. So this is what it means to be the protagonist—one touch and the way opens.
Truly, fate can only bow before such luck.
Meanwhile—
Wu Feiyu emerged from the depths of the forest, trailed by a Blood Sect elder and a retinue of disciples.
The elder hurried to report, “Holy Son, Seventh Elder Ye Feng’s life jade slip has shattered—he’s dead!”
Wu Feiyu’s face remained impassive. “I see. Dead is dead.”
“But what if—” the elder pressed nervously.
Wu Feiyu’s gaze turned icy. “What if what? Are you questioning me?”
The elder immediately shook his head, beads of cold sweat gathering at his brow. “N-no, Holy Son, I wouldn’t dare.”
Hmph. Just because the Sect Master favors him, and the young miss is infatuated, he thinks he’s above everyone else, the elder thought, gritting his teeth internally—though his face was all respectful compliance.
At that moment, Wu Feiyu’s group happened across Jiang Qian and his companions—just as the hidden cave appeared in the cliff face.
The elder’s eyes widened. “Holy Son, look! That cave—Zhang Shi’s treasure must be inside!”
But Wu Feiyu ignored the discovery. His gaze had already fastened upon Jiang Zixuan.
“Zixuan!” he called out, his attention wholly focused on her.
