Chapter 15: You’re a Good Person
Translation by: Weebsread👹
Jiang Qian stiffened at Jiang Zixuan’s sudden question. His pupils shrank, but he forced a nervous smile. “N-no, Cousin, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Damn it—did I let something slip? Is Jiang Zixuan getting suspicious because of how I’ve been acting?
No way… Even if I’ve been a little weird, she shouldn’t be thinking along those lines.
But Jiang Zixuan only smiled more brightly, eyes dancing with mischief. “Did you take over Jiang Qian’s body? Are you really someone else inside?”
What the... How can she be this sharp?
No, she’s definitely fishing for a reaction. Can’t give her anything.
“Cousin, you’re thinking too much.” Jiang Qian managed to steady his voice, stepping back quickly. “Anyway, I just remembered I have something to do, so I’ll be going.”
Jiang Zixuan watched him retreat, then let out a quiet laugh. “He’s definitely not Jiang Qian. The real one never called me ‘Cousin.’”
“And back in the arena, the Jiang Qian I knew wouldn’t have risked his life for me. No way.”
“And since when would he hide joining the Azure Mountain Sect’s inner ranks? He’d be bragging to everyone he saw, terrified people wouldn’t notice.”
...
...
“But since he wants to play this little game of hide-and-seek, I’ll humor him for now!”
Jiang Zixuan had known for a long time—this “Jiang Qian” was nothing like the timid, petty boy from before.
She really is the protagonist—just a few hints and she’s pieced it all together.
Meanwhile—
Beneath a tree not far away, Jiang Qian glanced warily back at the looming mountain. He gulped, anxiety prickling at his neck. “Damn, Jiang Zixuan’s got some nerve. That woman’s genuinely terrifying.”
“If I stick around her any longer, she’ll figure out I’m a transmigrator for sure.”
“People like her… I need to keep my distance.”
No sooner had he muttered this than a pillar of icy blue light erupted into the sky in the distance.
Bai Piaoxue? She must’ve received her legacy too.
Out of the four of us, three have already found inheritances. Only Bai Piaoxue was left… and now, that’s about to change.
Without hesitation, Jiang Qian hurried toward the source of the blue light.
Moments later—
He arrived to see Bai Piaoxue enveloped in the legacy’s ritual, her form suspended within the pillar of radiant frost.
Jiang Qian casually found a boulder and sat down to wait.
It wasn’t long before Duan Yuqing and Jiang Zixuan appeared as well.
Jiang Zixuan plopped down right beside Jiang Qian, flashing him a curious look. “Jiang Qian, what do you think—what sort of inheritance will Bai Piaoxue receive?”
Jiang Qian opened his mouth to answer, only to catch a murderous glare from Duan Yuqing.
“No idea. Probably something pretty incredible, I’d imagine.” Jiang Qian shrugged, deliberately ignoring Duan Yuqing’s stare.
What? You want to glare at me? I’m not scared of you—just can’t be bothered to waste time on you.
Besides, with the Thunderflame Skywing Eagle almost recovered, what’s there to be afraid of—even a Nascent Soul cultivator isn’t much of a threat now.
Unable to hold back any longer, Duan Yuqing marched over with a forced smile. “Junior Brother Jiang, would you mind moving over a bit?”
Jiang Qian put on a pained face, rubbing his knees. “Senior Brother Duan, truth is, I’ve got an old leg injury. Whenever the weather gets damp like this, I just can’t stand up.”
Old leg injury? Who does he think he’s fooling? Since when do cultivators suffer from joint pain…
Just say you don’t want to move!
Duan Yuqing was left speechless by the absurd excuse, but with Jiang Zixuan present, he had no choice but to swallow his irritation and walk away in a huff.
Jiang Zixuan, seeing Duan Yuqing’s frustrated look, let out a bright laugh and turned to Jiang Qian. “Aren’t you even a little bit afraid of Senior Brother Duan?”
“What’s there to be scared of?” Jiang Qian shot back. “Actually, I should be asking you—Duan Yuqing obviously likes you. Don’t you feel anything for him?”
“He’s a good senior brother, that’s all.” Jiang Zixuan answered simply, gaze shifting back to Bai Piaoxue, still lost in her inheritance.
There it is—the classic “good person” speech.
Jiang Qian couldn’t help but wonder how Duan Yuqing would feel if he heard that. To be honest, he almost felt bad for the guy—the supposed villain felt even more pitiful than himself.
He glanced sympathetically at Duan Yuqing.
Duan Yuqing caught the look and frowned. What’s he looking at me like that for? Is he mocking me?
And why does Junior Sister keep sticking so close to Jiang Qian lately?
But it doesn’t matter. Sooner or later, you’ll die by my hand!
A long while passed—
At last, the pillar of light faded, and Bai Piaoxue opened her eyes, her breath misting in the chilly air. For a moment, she looked utterly ethereal—like a snow fairy, aloof and otherworldly.
Bai Piaoxue swept her gaze over the others. Then, her serene expression melted into a joyful smile, and she suddenly ran toward them.
“Bai Piaoxue, show some self-respect!” Duan Yuqing blurted out, thinking she was rushing into his arms.
But to everyone’s shock—
Bai Piaoxue flung herself straight into Jiang Qian’s embrace, eyes shining and lips curved in the brightest smile. “Jiang Qian, I finally found you!”
What in the world…?
Jiang Qian stared dumbly down at the girl clinging to him, mind totally blank.
Duan Yuqing watched, frozen with embarrassment, remembering his own outburst a moment earlier. His frosty demeanor crumbled, replaced by a deep awkward blush. He wished he could sink right through the ground.
A few moments later—
Bai Piaoxue lifted her face, beaming brightly at Jiang Qian. “Did you see? I got the inheritance! The legacy of the Frozen Empress! Isn’t that amazing?”
She looked just like a child eager for praise, eyes full of hope and anticipation.
Jiang Qian hesitated a long while, then managed a helpless smile. “As expected of Senior Sister Bai. Incredible talent!”
“Heehee!” Bai Piaoxue giggled, her delight bubbling over.
A second later, though, she stepped away from Jiang Qian and strode briskly over to Duan Yuqing.
The gentleness in her vanished, replaced by icy arrogance.
She leveled a chilling glare at Duan Yuqing, voice frosty as she spoke. “Duan Yuqing, you tried to kill Jiang Qian. I won’t let it slide.”
The temperature dropped sharply, a layer of frost edging her words.
Duan Yuqing froze, staring at the unfamiliar, cold Bai Piaoxue before him.
The next moment—
An exit portal from the secret realm appeared before them.
Bai Piaoxue instantly turned, face softening as she clung to Jiang Qian’s arm with a gentle smile. “Let’s go, Jiang Qian.”
“Uh? Oh—okay…” Jiang Qian was still floundering, caught off-guard by her sudden affection.
With Bai Piaoxue leading the way, Jiang Qian by her side, Jiang Zixuan and Duan Yuqing quickly followed.
The moment they stepped through the portal, the secret realm collapsed behind them, evaporating without a trace.
“Finally—fresh air!” Jiang Qian took a long, satisfied breath, savoring the return to the outside world.
Right then—
Bai Qianfeng arrived at the head of a group of Azure Mountain Sect disciples.
“My daughter! My precious daughter!” The instant he saw Bai Piaoxue, Bai Qianfeng rushed forward in delight, eyes shining with relief.
He was about to speak, but Bai Piaoxue beat him to it, voice crisp and confident: “Father, Duan Yuqing tried to kill both me and Jiang Qian!”
