Chapter 79: Killing Qian Zhongxian
Translation by: Weebsread👹
Qian Zhongxian realized at once that the masked figure before him was no average threat. “Senior, I beg your pardon, but how have I offended you?”
“How have you offended me?” Jiang Qian’s lips curled in a cold, derisive sneer. “Come now, just because I’m wearing a mask—you really don’t recognize me?” He peeled the mask away, his gaze growing icier as he fixed Qian Zhongxian with a piercing stare.
“Jiang Qian!” Qian Zhongxian’s face contorted in shock—this was the very man he’d been ordered to kill. But he quickly masked his fear, eyes sharpening, ready to bolt at the first opening.
He never got the chance.
In a blur of murderous intent, Jiang Qian closed the gap. His sword slashed out in a cold arc.
Clang!
Qian Zhongxian’s right hand morphed with unnatural speed; his nails extended into gleaming talons, parrying Jiang Qian’s blade with a screech of steel.
“Not bad, Eunuch Qian,” Jiang Qian said, lips twisting into a mocking smile. “You do have some tricks up your sleeve. But you seem to have forgotten something rather important.”
He let his words hang. “I still have two Sixth-rank demonic beast on my side.”
...
The words had barely left his mouth when Qian Zhongxian’s eyes went wide. He whipped around—just in time to see a massive maw descending toward his head.
Jiang Qian stepped back, a glint of amusement in his eyes as he watched Qian Zhongxian struggle, frozen in the Northwind Ice Wolf’s iron grip.
“Sunflower Yin Arts!” Qian Zhongxian bellowed. His body erupted in an eerie yellow glow.
Sensing danger, the Northwind Ice Wolf instantly retreated, padding back to Jiang Qian’s side.
Qian Zhongxian wiped beast-saliva from his brow, glaring daggers at Jiang Qian. “Forcing me to use my final trump card… You should consider yourself honored!”
“Looks like everyone underestimated you, Jiang Qian. Even the Crown Prince. You—you’re the wild card he never saw coming!” His voice cracked, desperation leaking through the bravado.
“For His Highness’s sake, I’ll drag you to hell with me if it’s the last thing I do!” Qian Zhongxian shrieked, eyes wild with madness.
In Qian Zhongxian’s mind, Jiang Qian had become a man of truly unfathomable depth—a cultivator whose strength could elude the senses of even the most powerful. Men like that… they were the most terrifying of all.
But Jiang Qian only chuckled at Qian Zhongxian’s threats. “Is that so? Let’s see if you have what it takes.”
As he spoke, a black qilin-shaped tattoo shimmered into view across his back, his pupils deepening into a rich, blood-red hue.
In a blink, Jiang Qian was in front of Qian Zhongxian, his hand clamped tight around the eunuch’s throat.
Panic surged through Qian Zhongxian as an invisible force wrenched energy from his body, siphoning it straight into Jiang Qian.
“What’s happening? Why can’t I move? What did you do to me?” He thrashed in vain, only to find himself completely paralyzed.
Jiang Qian’s tone was cool, almost bored. “The Sunflower Yin Arts, a demonic cultivation technique. Anyone who dares to tread the demonic path... I can devour every shred of their power.”
After all, this was one of the most dreadful gifts of the Myriad Demon Sacred Body.
Qian Zhongxian stared up in abject horror, disbelief twisting his features.
His strength faded in an instant. In the span of a few breaths, he was limp and powerless in Jiang Qian’s grasp.
“Your Highness… This old servant… can serve you no more…”
He didn’t finish. With a casual flick, Jiang Qian tossed him toward the Northwind Ice Wolf.
With a single gulp, the giant beast swallowed Qian Zhongxian whole, its tongue lolling in satisfaction. A Nascent Soul stage cultivator was a rare delicacy, after all.
In the next moment—
Jiang Qian stored the Northwind Ice Wolf back into his Beastmaster’s Ring. He slid the Demon-faced mask over his face once more. “Better put this back on.”
Without hesitation, he turned and headed back toward Tianze City.
By now, the Zhou Clan estate and the City Lord’s manor were little more than ruins—scattered rubble all that remained.
Bai Piaoxue and Jiang Zixuan had already been taken back to the Jiang Estate by Hu Murui.
Meanwhile, in the Jiang Estate—
Jiang Chenghai was preparing to lead the entire clan in a desperate flight from Tianze City.
Hu Murui glanced at the unconscious “Jiang Qian,” as well as Bai Piaoxue and Jiang Zixuan, all lying in the carriage. She sighed, helpless. “Who could have expected a demonic cultivator so fearsome would appear in Tianze City?”
“Even if I send word to my father at Beast Taming Sect, it’d take three days for him to arrive. By then, it’d be far too late for a rescue…”
As her words faded, Jiang Chenghai swept his gaze over the packed carriages and barked, “We leave through the rear gate! No one is to act without my command!”
“Yes, Sir!” The clan disciples, servants, and elders responded in unison.
But before they could move—
Jiang Qian—still masked—appeared before them as if out of thin air.
The entire group froze, every hand reaching for a weapon.
But Jiang Qian vanished again, only to reappear atop the carriage.
“Brother Jiang!”
“My son!”
Jiang Chenghai saw who was atop the carriage, and all fear for himself was lost. He charged forward, recklessly desperate to save his son.
He made it a dozen steps before a surge of demonic energy lashed out, binding him in place.
Hu Murui moved on instinct, reaching for her Beastmaster’s Ring—only to discover it was gone.
“Looking for this, little lady?” Jiang Qian smiled faintly, twirling the ring in his fingers.
Hu Murui’s eyes widened in disbelief. She drew her sword and lunged at him, but in the next instant, that sinister demonic aura wrapped around her, freezing her in place.
Before their eyes, Jiang Qian stepped into the carriage.
Seconds passed.
Suddenly, a sharp cry split the air from within the carriage.
Boom!
The carriage burst apart in a shower of lightning and fire. From the wreckage soared a majestic Thunderflame Skywing Eagle, the real Jiang Qian standing proudly on its back.
The masked “Jiang Qian” was blasted away by the explosion, thrown clear into the dust.
“Brother Jiang!”
“My son!”
Jiang Chenghai and Hu Murui cheered, relief written all over their faces.
After a brief chase, Jiang Qian circled the eagle back and landed.
No sooner had his feet touched the earth than Hu Murui flew to him, throwing her arms around him as tears streamed down her face. “I—I thought you were gone. I thought I’d lost you for good!”
Jiang Qian smiled gently, holding the sobbing Hu Murui in his arms. Then he glanced back at the burned ruins of the City Lord’s manor and the Zhou Clan Residence—nothing left but ashes.
It was over. At last, Jiang Qian could breathe easy.
Then Jiang Chenghai spoke, “Son, what happened to that demonic cultivator just now?”
“Him?” Jiang Qian replied with perfect calm—no trace of a lie in his voice. “He said he’d lost interest in playing around. He left with his two Sixth-rank demonic beast.”
Jiang Chenghai exhaled long and hard. “Thank the heavens he’s gone! At least we don’t have to abandon the Jiang Estate or flee Tianze City now.”
The other clan members finally relaxed, grateful—and more than a little stunned—that they’d survived such a disaster.
“Since we’re staying, everyone return to your quarters!” Jiang Chenghai ordered.
The Jiang clan disciples headed off toward their rooms in relief.
Jiang Qian and the others returned to the Jiang Estate.
Three days later, news reached the front lines, where Chen Shimin was stationed with the army.
“Hahaha! Excellent—what wonderful news!” he roared, laughter echoing off the camp walls.
